FAQ’s
Does a baby scan with Ultrasound Care replace my NHS scheduled scan?
No. Even if you have private scans, we highly recommend that you continue with the NHS scheduled scans.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment.
What do I do when I arrive?
Please kindly wait at the reception if you arrive before your appointment. A receptionist or our sonographer will then greet you and guide you to the clinic room.
How long will my appointment last?
This depends on the type of baby scan you are having - please see the information under our individual services for more information.
Do I need to have a full bladder?
Please eat and drink as normal before your appointment. It’s important you are well hydrated for the best image quality so we ask you to drink a couple of glasses of water (0.5 litres or 1 pint) about an hour before your appointment. Please do not empty your bladder before your appointment.
Should I bring anything with me?
Please bring any notes you may have with you from your midwife or doctor. For early pregnancy scans, if you haven’t had a midwife appointment yet you can still visit us for a scan.
What should I wear?
We will need to expose the abdomen so it is best to wear a 2 piece top-and-bottom (for example a skirt or trousers and top).
What happens if you can’t see the baby well?
We offer a free rescan if your baby’s position is not favourable to fulfil the purpose of the scan at the time of your initial appointment. This will be discussed with you during your appointment.
Is it safe?
Ultrasound scanning during pregnancy is considered safe for both mothers and babies. We follow guidance set out by The British Medical Ultrasound Society. All of our sonographers are fully trained, well qualified and have experience in obstetric scanning. You can also read our blog post on private baby scans by clicking here to know more.
What happens if you see any problems?
If anything is identified in your fetal health scan which needs further attention, the sonographer will explain this to you and support you in obtaining further care. You will also be given a written report of the findings.
